Rotel Cups

  • one can of Rotel tomatoes (drained);

You can also spice things up by adding shrimps or sprinkling herbs on top of the cups. Enjoy!

DIY Handbag Jeans

To re-purpose means transforming an ordinary object into something different it was intended in the first place. This technique has become very popular within the DIY world, and is used often as a replacement for buying new articles and recycling old items. In this project, you will learn, through the pictures and steps provided, how to make a handbag from a pair of unused jeans. You will need:

  • blue (or any other color of) jeans;
  • a sewing machine;
  • zippers;
  • straps;
  • some fabric;
  • a pair of scissors;
  • optional: cardstock;

The process isn’t that hard and it involves using even one leg of the jeans, depending on how big you want the bag to be. Start with placing the jeans material (one leg for example) and reinforcing where the bottom of the bag will be. You can do this by sewing a piece of cardstock or just another piece of material. Or you could leave it without a bottom. Then, sow on both interior sides of the bag (pant leg at this point) some material, leaving the top open for adding a zipper. This will be the inside pockets.

Next are the straps (they could be from any material at your disposal) which are also stitched to the leg, but on the `good` side. Last but not least, the entire length of the top of the zipper is sewed on the material by folding the pant in the way shown in the image. Cut off the excess corners if necessary. Finally, do the lining coupled with the top of the bag. You’re bag is done. If you’re familiar with sowing techniques, it should be easy.

CHICKEN & DUMPLIN CASSEROLE

The famous dumplings you see featured in movies shouldn’t be found just in restaurants. Grab some courage and make this for your family and friends, right at home.

INGREDIENTS:
  • two chicken breasts (you can also buy them from rotisserie);
  • two cups of chicken broth;
  • half butter;
  • two cups of Bisquick;
  • two cups of milk;
  • one can of cream chicken soup (the ideal would be to use the Herbed one);
  • three teaspoons of granules with chicken flavor;
  • half teaspoon of dried sage;
  • one teaspoon of black pepper;
  • half teaspoon of salt (if it’s not salty enough, you can use more);
 Start with preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Then you will start making the layers placed in the casserole. Take a 9 x 13 casserole fit for oven and make the first layer by melting the half butter and then sprinkle shredded chicken over it. Add some black pepper and the dried sausages and leave this layer unstirred.
 Now you can focus on the next layer. For this you will need a smaller dish in which you’ll mix the milk with the Bisquick. When you are done, pour the mix onto the chicken and move on to the next layer.
 For this last layer you will have to use a medium sized bowl. Put the chicken broth in it, together with the granules and the chicken soup and mix them together. At the end add a layer of Bisquick. Leave it unstirred and place the casserole into the oven for 35 minutes. If you are not sure when it is done, take the casserole out when the top becomes golden.

Apple Cinnamon Loaf

A sweet desert could contain fruit, not just chocolate or some other kind of candy. Sugar is included, of course. But the taste buds will be delighted. Here is what you need to do:

  • brown sugar (not packed);
  • ground cinnamon;
  • white sugar;
  • butter;
  • a couple of eggs;
  • one and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract;
  • one and a half cup of all-purpose flour;
  • 1 and 3/4 teaspoons of baking powder;
  • half-cup of milk;
  • an apple;
 First of all, peel and chop your apple and preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Put some grease and flour on a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan. Mix 1/3 cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside. Beat a half cup of softened butter with 2/3 cup of white sugar in a bowl. Use an electric mixer for this, until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy. Beat the eggs, one at a time, until they mix and then add the vanilla extract.
Stir baking powder with flour in another bowl; and pour in the creamed butter mixture. Mix half-cup of milk into the batter until it becomes smooth. Pour half the batter into the prepared pan, then half the apples and half the brown sugar cinnamon mixture. Pat the apple mixture in a light manner into the batter.
Pour the rest of the batter over the layer of apples. Take the remaining apples and top the batter. Add some extra brown sugar or cinnamon mixture. Pat again apples in the batter and swirl with the help of a spoon some brown sugar mixture through apples. Put to bake for about half an hour. You know it’s finish when an inserted toothpick into it, comes out clean.

Repurposing Unwanted Shirts

The `magic` of sowing is often overlooked as many technological processes are making their way into our everyday life. Once in a while, a little step back to a lifestyle where handmade objects are more valued is worth your time. Especially if you have a young personality nearby you’d like to mold for the society of tomorrow. Try to make this small dress from an unused shirt and learn the art of repurposing objects from around you at the same time. For this, you will need:

an old shirt;
chalk or marker;
a pair of scissors;
thread and needle;
elastic band;
some extra colorful material;

Take an old shirt you don’t use anymore (or borrow one from a friend or family member). Draw onto the shirt the model of the dress. Be sure you take the right measurements so it will fit the future wearer. After the cutting, you just have to sow. Remember to work the sowing on the interior sides of the dress, so the stitches won’t be visible. Do the front collar and the arms with elastic band. The sides should have a regular sow. That’s it! Oh, if you’d like, you can decorate with a lovely little animal shape that you cut from a colorful material. Your cute dress is now done.
